What are the Original Lag and Remaining Lag for a Resource in Project Management?
Status: Reviewed
Version(s): 4.1, 5.0, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.2.1

Problem: What are the Original and Remaining Lags for a Resource in Project Management?
Problem: How is the Lag for a Resource entered?
Fix: The Original and Remaining lag fields are manually entered when it is known that a resource will not be available or is not needed when the activity starts. By typing in a lag, you delay the start of the resource by that amount of lag.

Original Lag is what was typed in and is used when there is no progress on the activity.
Remaining Lag is what lag is left after the activity has started. Remaining lag is automatically reduced once the activity is started and the Data date is moved forward.

Example:
The activity is scheduled to start on 10FEB, but the resource is not needed until 2 days later. A resource lag of 16 hours is applied making the resource start on 12FEB. Resource lag reduces the resource duration since it is not working the entire duration of the activity.

When the project is progressed one day, the Activity has started, but the resource has not started yet. The remaining lag on the resource is reduced by one day (8 hours). The Original Lag remains the same.

When the project is progressed 2 more days, not only has the remaining resource lag been used up, but the resource has started and has worked 8 hours.
