Problem: How to Cost load a Schedule.
Fix:

Costs may be applied directly to an Activity or applied using either a Resource Assignment or an Expense Assignment.

You can apply the cost directly to an activity if you are not going to use cost accounts or resource curves. For more information, see Solution ID: prim37091 - How to add a Lump sum cost to an activity without resources.

Costs as a Resource Assignment:

Below are steps to create and assign a single Resource, “Cost” for the the sole purpose of Cost-loading a Schedule.

1.  Go to the Resources view, right-click and choose “Add” to create a new Resource.

2.  Change the Resource ID and/or Resource Name to Cost.

3.  In the Resource window, Details tab, make the Resource Type Non-Labor and uncheck the option “Calculate Costs from Units”.

4.  In the Activities view, select an Activity to Cost-load.

5.  In the Resources tab of the Activity Details form, click the “Add Resource” button and select the Resource “Cost”.

6.  Add Cost information such as Budgeted Cost, Actual Cost, etc.

Note: If the Cost fields are not visible in the Activity Details Resources tab, right-click on the Reource ID Name header and choose “Customize Resource Columns…”.  Select the Resource and/or Cost fields to display.

If you want the actual costs to be automatically calculated, see Solution ID: prim29925 - ’Recalculate Actual Units and Cost when duration % complete changes’ calculation does not appear to be working
