Why are the Bars not Necking when printed?
Status: Reviewed
Version(s): 5.0, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.2.1

Problem: Why are the Bars not Necking when printed?
Problem: Necking for Activity Nonwork Intervals is ignored at Print Preview stage if the “All Columns” option in Page Setup - Options is chosen in the Print section and if the Gantt Chart takes up less than roughly one seventh of the total width of the Activity Columns and Gantt Chart (Note: Calendar Nonwork Time necking option is not affected).

Problem: Bar Settings are configured to Neck down for Activity Nonwork Intervals.  The Bars Neck properly in the Gantt Chart in Activities view, but do not Neck down when the Gantt Chart is printed.
Problem: Activity Nonwork Intervals don’t Neck in Print Preview/Printed Output under certain circumstances.
Problem: When showing Necking for Suspend and Resume Dates using the Activity Nonwork Intervals option, the Necking does not show for some Bars in Print Preview and in PDF.
Cause: In Page Setup, the options to show the Activity Table and All Columns are selected.
Fix: This known problem in Project Management is currently under review and may be corrected in a future release.
Fix: Workaround 1:

Create a new Bar defined by (UDFs) User Defined Fields.

1. Add User Defined Fields (Enterprise, User Defined Fields).

  • Title: Suspend = Data Type: Start Date

  • Title: Resume = Data Type: End Date

2. Create and Run Global Change (Tools, Global Change).

Then

Suspend = Suspend Date

And

Resume = Resume Date

3. Create Bar.

  • Timescale = User Dates

  • User Start Date =  Suspend

  • User Finish Date = Finish

Fix:

Workaround 2:

Deselect the option to show All Columns on the  File, Page Setup, Options tab (you may need to exit Project Management and start up again and then re-load the project in order for this workaround to take effect)

Note: This workaround only works for version 5.0 without any Service Packs.  This workaround does not work with SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4 or SP5.

Fix: Also, check that the Timescale Start and Finish are not extending a longer period of time than the Activities displayed.  For instance, if the Project has a duration of 1 year, check that the Timescale Start/Finish is not extending more than a year.
