Problem: Hammock definition and instructions on how to create a Hammock activity in P3.
Fix: Use hammocks to monitor the elapsed beginning-to-end duration of a group of activities. A hammock duration is the number of days between the beginning of the first activity and the end of the last one in the group–not the sum of the activities’ durations. If several activities in the hammock overlap, the hammock’s duration will be smaller than the combined durations; if large gaps exist between the activities in the hammock, its duration may be longer.

How to create a Hammock activity:

1.  Create a new activity and change the type to ‘Hammock’ on the Activity form at the bottom of the screen (press F7 to bring up the Activity form).

2. Define the start of the Hammock.
Click the Pred button in the activity form. Select the Hammock’s predecessors. Specify a start to start relationship and zero lag for all predecessors to the Hammock. The earliest Early Start of all the predecessors define the Early Start of the Hammock.

3. Define the finish of the Hammock.
Click the Succ button in the activity form. Select the Hammock’s successors. Specify a finish to finish relationship and zero lag for all successors to the Hammock. The latest Early Finish of all the successors define the Early Finish of the Hammock.

4. After establishing the beginning and ending points of the Hammock, calculate the schedule by pressing F9.
