Problem: Why Planned Dates are different from Early Dates.
Problem: Why do the Planned Dates not match the Early Dates?
Problem: Why are Planned Dates no longer affected by Constraints or entries like Expected Finish?
Problem: Planned Start does not equal Early Start (ES).
Problem: Planned Finish does not equal Early Finish (EF).
Problem: Baseline Start does not equal Baseline Early Start.
Problem: Baseline Finish does not equal Baseline Early Finish.
Fix: Planned Start / Finish:
For an Activity that has not started, Planned Start/Finish represents the date the Activity is Scheduled to Begin/End. These dates are set equal to the Early Start and Early Finish dates by the Scheduler, and can not be updated manually (they can be updated, but once you re-Schedule, they go back to the ES/EF dates).  If the Planned Finish is updated, Original Duration will change.

Once an Actual Start date is applied to the Activity, these dates are not changed by the Scheduler, but the Planned Start can then be manually changed and Scheduling will not affect it.

Fix: Early Start / Finish:
The earliest possible date the Remaining Work for the Activity can Begin/End. These dates are calculated by the Scheduler based on Network Logic, Schedule Constraints, and Resource availability.  Since these are calculated, they can not be manually changed.
Fix: Before an Actual Start is applied to an Activity, the Planned Dates match the Early Dates.

Once an Actual Start is applied, the Planned dates are left unchanged while the Early dates are pushed out with the Data date. Once an Actual Start is applied, the Planned Dates will not equal the Early Dates.

Fix: Make sure the project level setting ‘Link Budget and At Completion for non-stated activities’ is selected.  Otherwise, the Original Duration could be different than the At Complete Duration for non-started Activities, therefore, resulting in variances between Planned Dates and Early Dates.
Fix: Make sure “Level resources during scheduling” is not selected. Go to “Tools>Schedule” then click the “Options” button.
