Finish date is stretching out 1 day beyond the duration |
Status: Reviewed |
Version(s): 4.0, 4.1 |
Problem: | Why does activity span more days than it is long? |
Problem: | Finish date is stretching out 1 day beyond the duration? |
Problem: | Duration of 3 days but dates are stretching 4 days |
Fix: | 1. Go to Edit, User Preferences, Dates, and show time for 12 hour intervals. 2. Go back and look at that specific activity. Notice that the times are finishing on XX:01 instead of right on the hour or finishing on the desired day. 3. Add columns for Start and Finish. Click on the Finish column to sort by Finish. Look for the earliest activity in the project that is having this problem and look for any asterisks which would mean there is a constraint assigned to that activity. A Filter could also be created based on certain constraints to get this information. This activity is set to Finish at 12:00AM with a Finish On constraint. In this example 12:00AM is non worktime based off our calendar. So Primavera looks at this activity and says it can not walk in and finish at the beginning of the day on 12:00AM, which is non worktime, so it must look to the first available workperiod and add the smallest available unit of time which will be one minute of worktime in the next available workperiod. In this case the day starts at 7:30AM so the activity works one minute and finishes at 7:31AM. Primavera can not schedule a finish at the beginning of the day. Because you can not come in and finish as soon as you start, you must have this worktime of the one minute assigned. This one minute adjustment will readjust the activities connected in the relationship chain from here on out, adding an extra minute to some of these activities and this extra minute will push some of the activities back into another day. Therefore if you are viewing the dates in a daily format they will appear to be a day ahead. It would appear an activity with 3 days of duration is actually taking 4 days to work. When in actuality they are just finishing one minute into that day. 4. After finding the activity with the constraint and time that has caused this problem, fix the time so that this activity finishes at the end of the day. Then reschedule, this should remove the activity finish from the beginning of the day and the relationship chain from here on out should fall back in line. |
